Chapter 9

1.  What does "uppity" mean?  What page is it on?  Who does it describe?
2. What are "hors d'oevres'?  When does it mention them?  How do you pronounce it?
3. Why was Turtle's mom being so nice before the party?
4. Give two examples from this chapter that Grace disliked Turtle and favors Angela:
5. What did Judge Ford find out about Mr. Hoo over the phone?
6. What are two things being posted on the bulletin board?  Why do you think this is important?

    1. Grace Wexler also gave Turtle the closet instead of the big room, which she gave to Angela.

    2. Another example of her preference of Angela is when she made Turtle give up her seat for Dr. Deere.

    1. I agree but I strongly believe it should be longer than one sentence. Also I think you should add something about how Turtle refused.

  8. #5. J.J. Ford found out that James Hoo had a connection with Sam Westing. I believe that clue will be very useful in the long run.

  9. #6 Two things that were posted on the bulletin board were: Lost: important business papers of no value but the owner. Please return to Sydelle Pulaski, 3C. No questions asked. I think this was important because when Sydelle Pulaski said business papers she really meant her copy of Sam Westing's will and it had been stolen by one of the residents. Another thing that was on the bulletin board was: Lost: silver cross on filigree chain, topaz pin and earrings, gold-filled cuff links. Return to Grace Windsor Wexler, 3D. REWARD! I think this was important because when Turtle was dared to spend some time in the westing house she brought along the silver cross to ward off vampires and she had dropped on her way out of the house.
